Sophia’s football journey is a story of passion, determination, and growth. Starting at one of the Foundations, Kellogg’s Football Camp, to her progressing into the Crawley Girls Elite and Development Programme, becoming a shining example of what dedication and hard work can achieve.
When reflecting on her experience at the Kellogg’s football camp Sophia enthusiastically shared her best bits of the day! "My favourite thing about the Kellogg’s day was doing the stadium tour and learning new skills and tricks."
Sophia’s love for the game shines though in her wide range of footballing inspirations, supporting a number of clubs across the world. She said, "I support various teams including Chelsea, Liverpool, Inter Miami, and Al Nassr, but now I support Crawley as well. RED ARMY RED ARMY!"
Her introduction to the Girls Development Programme came through her coach Frankie, who spotted her potential. "During my Kellogg’s football day, my coach Frankie asked if I would like to do a trial. I turned up, played a little bit of football, and luckily got in. I started turning up every Monday and played with all my girls,”.
Sophia went onto credit the programme with helping her grow as a player. "I think I have improved quite a lot coming to Crawley girls development football. A big thank you to Frankie and James for helping me develop my skills like height, width, depth, and showing my feet so people can pass to me and other teammates."
The highlights for Sophia have been both personal and team based. "I have loved improving my football skills and playing with the other girls in the squad. The coaches are great; they teach really well, are very friendly, and have helped me improve. Thank you, Frankie, and James!"
Sophia’s father was also keen to share his thoughts on her development: "Sophia absolutely loves coming to the sessions – it has helped her confidence in her football ability by being selected to join the squad. Also, as the only girl still playing mixed football at Reigate Priory Football Club, I think she has enjoyed the all-girl sessions and the friendships she is making. The small number in the squad means there is real focus on each player, and having a female role model in Frankie is a real inspiration for her."
He went on to praise the programme, adding, "I think the sessions are really well-run, with the right mix of learning while keeping things fun. The coaching ratio is excellent. I’d love to see more aspiring girl footballers join to expand the squad, which would bring fresh talent and challenges."
Sophia’s journey reflects the power of our programme in nurturing young talent, offering a space for skill-building, high quality coaching and fun.
The Crawley Town Community Foundation Girls Elite and Development Programme continues to inspire and empower the next generation of footballer, and Sophia’s story is proof that with opportunity and support, many local girls can improve and grow in the programme to become better footballers.
