The Crawley Town Foundation Academy is currently experiencing its best season yet, with three wins out of three at the start of the National Football Youth League (www.nfyl.co.uk) South Championship season and are pushing for promotion to the highly competitive NFYL South Premier Division, the highest level of competitive football outside of academy football.
For those reading about the Foundation Academy for the first time, it is our Post-16 Football & Education programme, managed and delivered by Crawley Town Community Foundation staff, in partnership with The Holy Trinity Sixth Form, Crawley.
The Foundation Academy delivers the Pearson BTEC Sport Level 3 qualification, equivalent to three A-Levels, as well as the Pearson BTEC Sport Level 2 qualification, equivalent to four GCSEs. The qualifications are taught by two full-time staff at the football club who have extensive experience in the football industry, previously working with clubs such as Portsmouth FC, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley FC and Bayern Munich between the two of them.
BTEC qualifications have a proven track record in supporting students to get into universities of all levels, both in the UK and in the USA, as well as supporting students to progress into sports-related apprenticeships and employment.
The football programme has continued to develop pathways internally and externally at the football club with three students playing as trialist players in Crawley Town first team friendlies in the past six months, and the programme developing close links with Isthmian side, Sutton Common Rovers, and Southern Counties Premier side, Loxwood FC.
The Foundation Academy prides itself on providing a positive, student-centred environment, keeping the intake numbers down each year so that class sizes are no bigger than 15 students in a class, and training sessions are no bigger than 25 footballers in a squad. This environment ensures that all student footballers on the programme are given the attention they deserve, and are not just treated as a number, in the way they are at bigger programmes in the local area.
Ahead of new enrolments in September 2022 and to-date, the academy has run two football trials, with a number of offers for student footballers to join us next year. The academy will be running more trials in November and December, in order to bring in the best players in the area for next year.
The club are currently recruiting Year 11 students, who have a keen interest in studying the sport, as well as looking to have a career in the beautiful game – be it as a player, coach, manager, physio or any other of the fantastic roles within the football industry.
